time in a bottle

Rimefang stretched his long legs, eyeing the steadily rising sun and the shafts of sunlight painting the gorse and grass in shades of orange. He sat outside of his den and just watched the sun rise for a few moments, enjoying the warmth in his fur. The tom shook out his fur and groomed a few stray tufts into place before approaching the apprentice's den to search for his newly appointed apprentice. "Wisppaw!" he called inside, hoping she wasn't a particularly heavy sleeper like himself. "Come on, I want to show you how to hunt," he meowed and padded away to lay next to the entrance to camp while waiting on the young she-cat.

Wisppaw shyly padded out of the apprentice den and gave a small smile to Rimefang as she reached the entrance. She would love to hunt and would have loved to say she would but she kept shying away from saying anything to Rimefang as she padded after him.


(Don’t worry, she will get used to him also she is emotional so will cry at random moments so don’t worry ^_^)

He flicked the she-cat's nose with his tail gently as they made their way out of the camp and into the open moors. "Lighten up a little bit, I'm not Spinestalker, I don't bite," Rimefang joked, coming to a stop when they were surrounded by gently swaying grasses all around. "Open your mouth a little and smell the wind-- see what you can smell," he instructed, doing so himself. The warrior tasted the ever-present scent of rabbit, along with a couple of distant sparrows digging for early-morning worms.

Wisppaw smiled wider and when they stopped she opened her jaw a bit to get the prey scents. She remembered the scent from the prey pile at camp. “R..Rabbit.” She asked looking at Rimefang while also trying to hide her face at the same time.

The warrior nodded, a smile curling his lips. "Can you tell what direction it's coming from?" he asked Wisppaw, wanting to see if she could find her way to the rabbit herself. "You'll want to try to make your way towards it as quietly as you can-- you don't want to alert it to your presence cause you probably won't be able to catch it once it's startled. If you can get within a couple of fox-lengths, pounce on it," he instructed. "If you want, I can show you how, or you can try yourself based on your instincts."

Wisppaw nodded and opened her jaw again. She wanted to see if she could do it herself so she crept towards the scent staying as quiet as she could be and being her that was very quiet. When she was a few Fox lengths away, like Rimefang said, She pounced. She landed right on top of the little creature and bit down on its neck killing it fast. She picked up the rabbit and padded back to her mentor a little shocked at herself.

Rimefang cheered as the apprentice leaped on top of the rabbit and delivered the killing blow. "Good job Wisppaw!" he meowed, tail held high with pride. "I can smell a couple of sparrows upwind, see if you can catch something smaller and flightier," he suggested, suppressing a smile at his pun.

Wisppaw nodded but didn’t get his joke so looked away to find the birds. After she knew where one was she knew it would be tricky as the bird could easily fly off when it felt her presence on the ground. Wisppaw silently padded towards the bird and got into the hunting crouch. When the bird wasn’t watching, she lept at it with claws out. The bird noticed and flew off faster than Wisppaw could catch. She landed with a thud and padded back to RimeFang with her head down in shame.

Rimefang watched the she-cat hunt with fascination. He hadn't been around young cats in a while-- learning to hunt was an incredibly important thing and it was quite interesting to him to see how instincts affected lack of experience. "It's okay, Wisppaw," he meowed, the usual bite of sarcasm gone from his voice. "Birds are a difficult catch and take a lot of practice. I smell another one back in the other direction, maybe you could try again if you're up to it," the warrior suggested.

Wisppaw nodded slightly and got the birds direction before bounding towards it. She started to stalk it when she got close enough and when the bird wasn’t looking she pounced. The bird flew off again but she didn’t mind this time. Wisppaw padded back to RimeFang with a smile.

Rimefang smiled. "That was a lot closer!" he meowed, proud of her for being less hard on herself. "Let's try to get at least one more piece of prey to bring back to camp, yeah?" the warrior suggested-- they had so many apprentices now that they were gonna need a lot more food than usual.

Wisppaw nodded before bounding off to catch a rabbit she scented earlier. She didn’t think and ran straight after the prey. Unlike the other clans were they stalked the prey, windclan ran. She pounced when she got close and killed it. She padded back to RimeFang with the rabbit in her jaws.

"Good catch!" he called to his distant apprentice, grabbing the rabbit she'd caught before and trotting to catch up with her. "Let's head back to camp," he meowed, voice muffled by the fluffy rabbit.

Wisppaw bounded after RimeFang towards home with her rabbit in jaw.
