The Whomping Willow

Willowblossom dragged himself out of his nest irritably. Since Shrikecall's sudden death, training duties for the apprentices had been shared among the warriors and today was his turn for battle training with Whitepaw. He groaned. It was so cold. Reluctantly he padded out of the den, shivering as he stepped out into the cold air, and approached the apprentice den. He poked his head in with a sigh, "C'mon Whitepaw, time for training." He withdrew, waiting outside the den for the apprentice to emerge.

Whitepaw smiled as he padded out of the apprentice den looking at willowblossom. "Come on willowblossom, it isn't that cold out." he mewed shaking his fluffy fur as a drop of water hit his face from the snow dripping off the apprentice den entrance.

Willowblossom glared. "Maybe not for you," he snapped waspishly, fluffing out his thin coat, though it provided little comfort in the open air and the constant blowing winds of Windclan territory. He shivered again as he turned to stalk out of the camp hollow and headed towards the training grounds. Maybe if he moved enough he could at least stave off the worst of the chill.

Whitepaw followed after willowblossom with a giant smile. He was having a blast and wondered why willowblossom wasnt. Did he hated him that much? Whitepaw silently followed, ready to train.

Padding into the training grounds, Willowblossom was relieved that the hollow was relatively free of snow and sheltered from the worst of the wind. It didn't help much but at least it was something. He walked to the center of the hollow before turning to face Whitepaw, "Well, let's see what Shrikecall taught you and we can go from there. Come at me." Willowblossom didn't have much experience with training apprentices so having a baseline of Whitepaw already knew could be nothing but helpful. He knew he'd certainly have been irritated as an apprentice if someone tried teaching him something he already knew.

Whitepaw nodded before launching into the air and landing on willowblossom's back. He kept his claws out, not wanting to hurt him but wanting to stay on. With his weight he tried to unbalance willowblossom.

Willowblossom blinked as Whitepaw immediately pounced on his back, not the kind of opening move he'd been expecting but... He didn't try to dodge, instead bracing himself for the impact. Whitepaw was surprisingly heavy. Willowblossom's legs bowed slightly as the apprentice landed on him and he let out a low grunt. Claws dug sharply into his skin.

Rather than attempt to shake the apprentice loose and fight gravity, Willowblossom allowed Whitepaw's weight to pull him to the ground. Neatly turning the fall into a roll to knock the apprentice loose from his back. He hopped back to his paws, tail flicking. "Not the kind of opening move I'd normally go for but fairly well executed, unpredictability can be one of your best weapons in battle." He began to slowly circle Whitepaw, this was training he reminded himself, not sparring, there was no reason to trade blows yet. He'd bide his time for Whitepaw's next move to counterattack.

(According to current ranking system I've realized all my warriors are actually still naw instead of yw so, just adjusted the health)

Whitepaw smiled at the compliment and circled willowblossom also. He made sure he got an open window before lunging at him with his claws.

Willowblossom growled as Whitepaw's claws raked his shoulder, those were sharp! Before the apprentice had a chance to react, Willowblossom ducked down, and swiftly reared up to ram the top of his head up into Whitepaw's unprotected throat and jaw. Not hard enough to cause any serious injury. He shook his head, it rang slightly from the impact. "Watch the claws, we're training not trying to shred each other." His shoulder stung where the claws had broken skin, though it wasn't bleeding too badly.
