Out on patrol

Sandbreeze leapt easily over the fallen log and landed lightly on the other side. His pale yellow fur ruffled with the light breeze that made the trees whisper, but he was enjoying the calm weather. It was the first time he'd been on a solo patrol since recovering from the snake bite that had nearly killed him.  So far, everything was quiet. The other clans had kept within their own borders, from what he could tell. Still, there was one scent that bothered him as he approached the edge of the forest. It was a scent that seemed to belong to no clan at all. A rogue.

Sandbreeze looked up just as a set of claws raked his snout. His amber eyes fell on a tom cat and his suspicions were confirmed. It was a rogue. "You're on Thunderclan territory," he spat, fluffed up tail lashing behind him. Perhaps he should've brought another warrior with him, but there was nothing he could do about that now.

"Nature doesn't belong to you!" he spat back, preparing to fight this warrior. He dug his claws into Sandbreeze's shoulder and bit at his flank, feeling bits of blood and fur touch his teeth.

Sandbreeze hissed at the rogue's offense. "Our home does!" He sprang forward and launched himself at the other tom. The pair went rolling, but sandbreeze refused to let go.

Sandbreeze yowled in pain before sinking his fangs into the paw that had hold of his shoulder. He raked his own claws against his attacker's belly. He didn't enjoy battle, but there was a flicker of satisfaction as he felt flesh rip beneath his claws. In the back of his mind though, Sandbreeze knew he was losing the fight. I'll be damned if I don't at least take you down with me!

Sandbreeze slashed his claws at the rogue before launching himself away from the rogue. He landed roughly in the dirt, barely able to find his paws again. I won't win at this rate. I have to w-... warn the clan, he thought breathlessly. With a growl of frustration, he turned from the loner and fled toward the safety of the clan, leaving a bright red trail of blood in his wake. He only prayed that the rogue tom wouldn't run after him.

Allister paced away from the warrior as his pelt sliced open. His vision went out of focus while Sandbreeze tried to escape. He let out a few pants, deciding on whether or not to chase after him. Then his claws carried him forward as he tried to grab the clan cat again.

Sandbreeze didn't look back as he fled from the rogue. His battered body protested the flying pace, but he only had once thing on his mind and that was getting back to the clan. The sandy tom suddenly stumbled as his exhausted paws failed him and he rolled through the dirt. Too weak to get up again, Sandbreeze could only lay against the green of the forest and hope that someone would eventually come looking for him. "Have to... warn them," he muttered before exhaustion finally rendered him unconscious.

Flashpaw knew she should take a warrior with her, but Badgerstorm was busy and he was the one who she usually took with her to gather herbs. It would be a quick forage attempt, anyway, so she was sure she'd be fine. The long-furred dilute torbie padded quietly through the trees, her eyes scanning the ground for any useful herbs. What she found was not a plant, however. With a cry of surprise, she hurried over to Sandbreeze's side.

"Sandbreeze! Wake up," she scanned him, trying to tally his wounds. There was a lot of blood. She pressed her paws against the worst looking of his injuries, wishing she'd managed to find some herbs on the way. She did notice some cobwebs in a broken bit of a tree, and she hurriedly wrapped her paw in them and then reapplied pressure to the warrior's wounds.

Feeling another cat gently press against one of his wounds, Sandbreeze opened an amber eye to peer at Flashpaw. "You have no idea how glad I am to see you," he muttered with a faint smile. He winced as the apprentice touched one of the more sensitive wounds. Fladhpaw, listen to me very carefully and do not argue. I was attacked by a rogue near the border. You need to run and tell the clan in case he's headed that way. Then, you can come back for me. Do you understand." Sandbreeze's eyes were now more alert and burned fiercely. Nothing was more important than the safety of the clan and besides, he had no plans for dying today.

Flashpaw felt fear freeze her heart at Sandbreeze's words. A rogue, in their territory! She had known they were getting closer, but she had somehow naively thought they would leave ThunderClan alone. Her ears flattened against her head, and she nodded, but before she made any move to leave, she gestured towards some undergrowth with a paw.

"I'll go, but you should take cover in case the rogue comes back. You're in no shape to continue fighting." Her attempts had not been that successful, unfortunately. She paused for a moment to be sure he was going to listen to her, as weird as it still felt to give any sort of order to a warrior, and then took off for camp.
