Gingerkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Today would be a special day for Featherstep; he was practically bursting with excitement as he leapt atop Tall Rock. He wasted no time in calling out the summons, “Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Tall Rock for a Clan meeting!” He watched with an impatiently twitching tail as he waited for his clanmates to respond to the call.

Wide, pale eyes darting to the highrock, Gingerkit watched as his father called a clan meeting. Something had been mentioned earlier that day about how he and his littermates were now six moons of age, meaning their apprentice ceremonies would be soon. Assuming this would be his, he hesitantly scurried across the camp and sat down near the front of the group, an uncertain expression on his face.

“Gingerkit, please step forward,” Featherstep called out as soon as he saw his son hurry to join the gathering Clan.
“You have reached six moons old and are now ready to be apprenticed. From this day on until you earn your warrior name, you will be Gingerpaw.” He paused as he looked down at the young tom, his blue gaze shining with obvious pride. “Eagleheart will be your mentor. May he teach you everything you need to know to become a warrior WindClan can be proud of!”

Relieved to hear that the ceremony was actually his own, he stepped forward when he was told to do so. Listening to Featherstep's words, he felt himself grow a bit anxious. Was he ready for this step? What if he never became a warrior? Uncertainty clouded his gaze as he listened on. It was in that moment when the worry of who his mentor could be. What if he got a really mean mentor? Practically trembling, he waited ti find out who his mentor would be, completely disregarding the fact that he had just been made an apprentice. The moment he heard the name Eagleheart he glanced around, trying to catch sight of the tom. He had never really talked to Eagleheart, but surely he couldn't be that bad, right?

Jaggedkit watched from the nursery and gave Gingerkit a reassuring glance. He was truly happy for his former denmate, if not a tad jealous. He knew in less than a moon he would be out there, doing the same.
