Heronkit's Apprentice Ceremony

The smooth, well-worn stone of the Tallrock was shimmering faintly, the chilly light of day reflecting upon the soft dusting of frost. Brindleface's fur caught softly on the tendrils of ice, a faintly evident rustling sound just barley noticeable above the breeze, as she pulled herself atop the ceremonial meeting place. Straightening up, the Deputy’s voice rang out with a sharp note of purpose as she called out the familiar summons, "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather underneath the Tallrock for a Clan meeting!"

Excitement fizzed through her paws, and as the summons were called her ears perked up and she was practically buzzing. Her mother gestured with her tail toward the tall rock, and Heronkit bounded towards the large stone, gazing up expectantly at the deputy. She had waited and dreamed of this moment for what felt like forever! Briefly she wondered who she would get as a mentor - she didn't really know many of the warriors - but whoever she got, the little molly inwardly promised that she'd be the best apprentice any cat could ever want.

Neatly winding her tail around her paws, Brindleface's austere features softened in amusement as she took note of the way that Heronkit came bounding forward, evidently ecstatic. Surely there was nothing as sweet. Only when the last stragglers made their way to the loosely formed ring of cats did she finally raise her voice once more. "Heronkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to find your place among the Clan." She began, voice carrying a sharp and determined undercurrent, "From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Heronpaw. I shall mentor you, and I look forward to passing down everything that my mentor once taught me."

Gracefully dismounting the looming stone of the Tallrock, the Deputy made to complete the ceremony with the traditional first greeting between Mentor and Apprentice.

Ears pricked, she gazed up at the deputy with the utmost respect as she went through the sacred words required for the ceremony. Her whiskers trembled with excitement, so much excitement she felt that they were about to pop off her face still adorned with kit-fluff. Her new name, Heronpaw, rang out across the clearing, and she beamed in her new name, before the deputy announced that she was going to mentor her. Heronpaw, mentored by the deputy, a cat she absolutely admired. She thought she was going to fall off her paws with excitement and shock. Blinking rapidly as Brindleface approached her, she touched her nose to her new mentors. "I'm going to be the best apprentice ever, I promise!" Heronpaw purred, tail waving with excitement. She was going to become the best warrior ever with Brindleface as her mentor!
