Foxkit's Apprentice Ceremony

"Let all cats old enough to capture their own prey gather underneath Jaggedrock for a clan meeting!" It was time for a new apprentice, and the deputy couldn't have been happier to jump onto his perch and call out to the clan.

Foxkit bounded out of the nursery before Magpiewing spoke a word. Her ears were primed and ready for the deputy, listening for even the slightest rustle of fur. Without hesitation, she ran to the Jaggedrock, looking up excitedly as the black tom rested.

"Foxkit, please step forward." He called out, looking down with an amused expression at the overly-excited kit.

The young Bengal could barely contain herself as she stepped forward, her body shaking with anticipation. Who would her mentor be? Stormeye was a fierce she-cat. But Frogmilk seemed wise... She was a little scared of Alfalfatuft, and Magpiewing himself was already so busy with other apprentices, surely he wouldn't assign her to himself. Maybe, if she was lucky, Firestar herself would train her! Imagine that! She giggled to herself. No way.

"You have reached the age of six moons, and are now ready to be apprenticed. From this day forth, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Foxpaw," the deputy hummed. He paused to think of the best mentor for such an exuberant she-cat.

"Your mentor shall be Firestar. Congratulations."

No way. Was he joking? The Firestar? She was only the most courageous and cool cat in the whole forest! Foxki- Foxpaw couldn't believe it! The she-cat sat with a bewildered face as the deputy rested his muzzle on hers before leading to complete his own duties. She was left with friends and family congratulating her, and encouraging her to go find the leader to officially touch noses.
