Silkkit had wandered out of camp. Who could blame her? She was just too curious. “It’s dangerous, Silkkit. Don’t go out there, Silkkit. Yeah well...this doesn’t seem so bad after all...” Silkkit said to herself. Her mother and father had always told her stories about kits who died wandering outside of camp. She flicked her tail, glancing around. The forest was new, and beautiful. As she soaked in the rays of warm sunshine, something made a cracking noise. Silkkit turned around, slightly confused. Thinking it was nothing, she lied down on a patch of warm sunshine, closing her eyes and sighing. “The forest isn’t dangerous...” She yawned. The crack sounded again, and this time Silkkit was annoyed. Cracking open one eye, she looked up. A grinning, malicious looking rogue was staring at her. He was a gray tabby with yellow-green eyes. “A kit...hmm? Interesting...I was hoping to find a warrior or one of those apprentices, but a kit is better.” The rogue grinned, his fangs glaring at her. Silkkit screamed and scampered away, but the rogue pinned her tail down with a paw. “Oh, no. Little kit, you’re not going anywhere.” With that, he lunged for her neck, fangs sinking into it. Silkkit struggled, still screaming. Hot, warm blood poured down her neck. Agony burst out from her as the rogue dropped her. Smirking once more, he ran away, leaving her to bleed to death. Blurry eyed, she spotted a cat. “H-help...help me, please...” Silkkit croaked, a pool of blood making her fur red. She couldn’t bear it anymore. She wanted to sleep. I’m sorry... Silkkit thought, before closing her eyes forever...

“What...Where am I?” Silkkit whispered to herself. She looked down from her body, realizing that she now was a spirit. A lump rose in her throat as she thought about her family. Glancing at her now still form once more, Silkkit turned away, joining the ranks of StarClan...

Having been on a hunting patrol, Valerianroot hadn't though the day would take such a turn for the worst. On his way back to camp, he'd caught the scent of blood, but it wasn't the blood of prey... no... it wasn't the type of mouthwatering scent that he was used to. This particular scent sent his fur on edge.

Dropping the squirrel that he'd caught, Valerianroot crouched down. Among the scent of blood there was another smell, one that he'd smelt before but nothing familiar to him. A rogue maybe? But this far into the territory... they had to be crazy to come so close to ThunderClan's camp, unless they were just mousebrains after all... Stalking forward and keeping himself hidden among some brush, he rounded a tree and what he saw next made his stomach sink.

Silkkit, one of the younger kits of the nursery lied on the forest floor, her once fluffy kitten pelt stained with blood. How in StarClan's name, how and why had this happened?

Glancing around to make sure the coast was clear, Valerianroot jumped out from where he hid and rushed over to the kit. Maybe there was still a chance... Prodding her tabby pelt with a big, silver paw, the kit's warmth was gone and her tiny body had grown rigged. Opening his maw to sniff the air, the scent that had settled in the area around her was definitely a rogue and he knew his father would have that cat's head, whoever they were or no matter what it took to find them. If only he had been around a little bit earlier... then maybe he could've stopped this from happening, but it didn't matter; he had been too late.

"May StarClan light your path, little one," the regal tom mewed softly, dipping his head and closing his eyes for a few moments to say his prayers. Bending down, he gently grabbed Silkkit's scruff and lifted her off of the blood stained ground. He'd come back for his prey, but for now, he needed to bring her back to camp. The rogues had made their intentions clear and today, their fates would be decided by his father and clan.
