A little fiddlehead

With the season of Leaffall now upon the clans, the rush for gathering herbs and prey for Leafbare was well underway. So far things had been going good, but he'd been around for many seasons and knew that things could change in the blink of an eye, so every-cat needed to stay on top of their duties. Speaking of duties, Lightningstar was going to join a hunting patrol but he quickly remembered that he had a new family member to visit. Just recently, his mate, Sageleaf had given birth to a healthy she-kit who they'd named Fernkit, and the burly leader wanted to check in on her and his mate before he left camp.

Padding across camp, a cool morning breeze ruffled his pelt as if to yet again remind him that Leafbare was closing in. Soon reaching the nursery, Lightningstar crouched down and stepped into the den, just enough that the front half of his body was in. Glancing around, Sageleaf was nowhere to be found and he assumed that she'd probably gone to care for some-cat elsewhere. It was hard to differentiate a kit's fluffy pelt from the moss covered ground but soon enough, he spotted Fernkit's fuzzy white pelt curled up a few pawsteps away from him.

"Hello, little one," Lightningstar mewed softly, reaching a large paw forward and prodding her with it.

Fernkit was all snuggled up in a comfortable mossy spot in the nursery and was having a dream about frolicking through open, sunny fields when all of the sudden there was a dark silhouette hovering over the field. Fernkit opened her eyes to see her dad Lightningstar smiling down at her as his large paw prodded her.

"Hi dad!" Fernkit mewed with a hint of tiredness yet mostly excitement.

She had seem startled, but not too bad and Lightningstar let out a sigh of relief seeing as though he was glad she hadn't started wailing as most kits did when awoken from their naps.

"Good morning," the large leader mewed with a dip of his head to his kit. Sitting down with his rump still half sticking out of the nursery, his fluffy tail swishing slowly back and forth. "Sleep well?" he asked, tilting his head to the side every so slightly.
