We uh went a little overboard (closed healing topic)

As Eveningpaw and Blazepaw padded into camp, Blazepaw leaning on him he led the way to the Medicine cat den so they could see Rowanpaw. Padding into the den with Blazepaw Eveningpaw called out. "Rowanpaw? We need a little bit of healing if you're not busy at the moment." The silver tom meowed helping Blazepaw sit before sitting himself. Looking at the both of them you could see that they went a little overboard when sparring. Eveningpaw felt kind of guilty he got caught up in the moment when fighting Blazepaw. "Sorry i went a little overboard when we were sparring." The tom meowed to Blazepaw.


Not far behind the two toms was Nightpaw, who had dumbly tripped on a stick and smacked his head on a rock after sparring with Splashpaw. The tom felt dumb but it was better than Splashpaw who had almost gotten hit by a monster. He pdadded into camp and into the Medicine cat den seeing Eveningpaw and Blazepaw. "Eveningpaw? Blazepaw? What are you guys doing here?" He asked confused as to why they were here, and battered and bruised. "We were sparring. How'd you get injured?" His brother asked and his ear burned with embarrassment. "I tripped on a stick and hit my head on a rock." The tom replied.

Blazepaw hated using eveningpaw to walk but at the moment he didnt care. when they got to the medicine den he slowly sat down trying to not have his injuries touch anything. He noticed nightpaw and could smell shadowclan on him but of course, he didnt care. at the moment, blazepaw only cared about being healed.

Rowanpaw was sorting through the herb stores, carefully separating them into piles of freshly gathered and those that needed to be used soon or discarded. The most recent cold snap had damaged some of the more sensitive herbs so he made sure to move them to a more sheltered part of the den. Applestem was... out. He didn't remember exactly where she said she was going, only that she'd be back before sunset to go over some of the more rarely used herbs.

His fluffy tail flicked rhythmically as he worked. It was satisfying. Everything had its place.

Sound outside the den caught his attention, ears twitching as it got closer, but he kept his eyes on his task, studiously pawing a shriveled juniper berry into the small pile of ruined herbs. He finally looked up as his name was called. Eveningpaw, holding up Blazepaw entered with Nightpaw shortly behind them.

Why did they need healing now when Applestem was gone!? He'd never taken care of injuries on his own before, what if he messed up!? He breathed slowly, none of his internal panic visible. It would be fine. Starclan would guide his paws. That's what Gingertail had told him. They'd make sure everything was okay.

His brow furrowed critically as he briefly looked over the three apprentices, "What did you do?" If that was sparring, Rowanpaw was certainly glad he wouldn't be doing much of it. He looked over his neat piles of herbs for a moment before looking back at the apprentices. First diagnose the injuries. He rose to his paws, padding over for a closer inspection, "Where are your worst injuries? I'll deal with those first." His voice was perfectly calm, as though he'd done this a million times before.

Eveningpaw looked over as Rowanpaw approached. “Mine are probably my face, and Blazepaw’s are probably his face and leg.” The large tom meowed bending lower so Rowanpaw could look at the ones on his face. While Rowanpaw tended to his injuries he looked around the den at the young medicine cat apprentice’s sorted herbs. They were neatly stacked with a pile of damaged herbs next to them.

As Eveningpaw and Blazepaw were tended to, Nightpaw, whose injury wasn’t as serious but gave him a pounding headache, thought about his spar with Splashpaw. It was nothing like Eveningpaw and Blazepaw’s spar, they didn’t use claws and afterward Splashpaw had given him a sneaky lick attack. Thinking of that the toms ears burned hot. Why are my ears burning? What does this mean? He thought as Rowanpaw finally came to look at his head and the tom bent down so the younger cat could look at it easier.

Blazepaw didn't pay attention to anything as he wished he wasn't in this situation with eveningpaw. He was supposed to be strong but instead he lost the fight and eveningpaw also helped him to the medicine den. Why was he being so nice to him when all he was, was mean.

Rowanpaw carefully looked over Eveningpaw's injuries. Despite the blood, none of the injuries looked too serious, mostly just superficial injuries but needed be treated to prevent infection nonetheless. Blazepaw's injuries were much the same though initially looked worse due to his mostly white coat. Nightpaw didn't appear to have any noteworthy external injuries.

Rowanpaw nodded to himself as he turned back to his herbs, running through what Applestem had said about treating wounds and preventing infections. Comfrey root, goldenrod, marigold, and oak leaves can all be made into poultices for wounds. But... Can you use all of them at once? Together? She had never said otherwise so it should be fine? He frowned slightly as he began pulling out his selection of herbs, though with his back to the apprentices no one would have seen.
Starclan will guide your paws. So... Starclan wouldn't allow him to make a mistake like that.... Right? With more confidence he turned back to the waiting apprentices. He shook out a couple poppy seeds in front of each of the three. "Eat these, they'll help with the pain and will help you sleep so your wounds can heal better. If you're still in pain later come back and you can likely have some more."

Leaving them to it, he began chewing up his mixture of comfrey root, goldenrod, marigold, and oak leaves into a poultice. The root was unpleasantly gritty and the oak leaves almost unbearably dry but the juices from the goldenrod and marigold, though a bit bitter, made it more tolerable. He was sure with more practice he wouldn't even notice the taste or texture. Once it was chewed up into a thick paste, Rowanpaw began applying it to Eveningpaw's and Blazepaw's wounds with steady paws. "Leave that on until it dries up, it should prevent any infections and help the wounds to heal more quickly."

Turning to Nightpaw he asked, "Anything wrong aside from the pain?"

Eveningpaw gratefully took the poppy seeds wanting to be rid of the pain from the sparring wounds. As he chewed them he watched as Rowanpaw decided which herds to use. As he applied the salve to his wounds Eveningpaw wrinkled his nose at the potent smell.

Nightpaw gratefully took the poppy seeds hoping to relieve his massive headache. “Well it did bleed when I smacked my head though not a lot. You probably won’t be able to tell with my black pelt though.” He meowed bending down again for Rowanpaw to inspect his wound again.

With a flick of his ear, Rowanpaw peered at Nightpaw's head again. He'd overlooked it the first time given the dark fur, but it was far from a serious wound. Nonetheless, with the bit of remaining poultice he carefully patted it onto the injury, better to prevent any possible infection, just in case. "Well, it doesn't look too bad. I doubt you could have hit your head hard enough to get a concussion just from tripping but if it starts feeling worse definitely come back."

Blazepaw was getting impatient waiting for rowanpaw to give them the all clear.

Nightpaw nodded. “Yes thank you. I’ll be sure to come back if it starts feeling worse.” The large tom meowed waiting for the all clear from Rowanpaw.

Eveningpaw watched the three cats interact, noting his brother was a bit distracted today. He narrowed his eyes a little suspicious.

Giving all three apprentices a quick final look over, Rowanpaw nodded to himself with a flick of his busy tail. "You should be good to go then, as I said, if anything feels worse or not right come back. We don't want to risk an infection getting worse if it could have easily been treated." He'd heard stories about cats trying to tough out an infection to not risk being seen as 'weak'. What nonsense. Being in entirely preventable pain, just so everyone thinks you're 'strong'.

With the dismissal, the brown tabby padded back to his piles of herbs to resume sorting out the old and damaged ones.
