| Each clan has developed courtship rituals that are specific to their clans, though cats are not obligated to follow these rituals, they are the norms set within each clan. Just some fun cute lore about our site
ThunderClan
Courtship in ThunderClan focuses on proving yourself a strong mate, regardless of gender. The cat that wishes to start the relationship will collect a trophy that shows their aptitude as a warrior. Some trophies include sneaking an owl feather from the Owl Tree, or collecting the shed skin of a snake from Snakerocks.
RiverClan
Courtship in RiverClan is focused on beauty, unsurprising for a clan that likes to decorate their nests and dens. Cats that wish to start a relationship will gather colourful objects to line their nests, and then offer it to their desired mate to share. Some objects that cats like to collect are strange colourful leaves from the Twolegplaces, feathers of birds, scales of colourful fish and smooth stones from the riverbanks.
WindClan
Courtship in WindClan is based on scents, thus the Flowering Fields play a pivotal role in starting relationships. The cat that wishes to court another, will collect fragrant flowers from the fields, and dry them carefully in a hidden location of their choosing. When they've collected an elaborate bouquet, they will present it to them privately and ask to be their mate. If their mate accepts, these flowers will line their nests in their burrows. It is considered poor form to ask for help, though due to the secret nature of the task, most cats will know what their clanmate is up too.
ShadowClan
ShadowClan cats are far more practical in their courtship rituals, due to the harsh nature of their territory, frivolous rituals are looked down upon. The cat that wishes to court another is expected to provide for their mate, examples include, felling healthy prey for them, collecting herbs that fortify health or lining their nests with furs, feathers and lichen for warmth. Unlike other clans, however, the cats being courted are expected to decide sooner rather than later, and if the suit is accepted, they should provide the same for their future mate.
SkyClan
SkyClan cats court using elaborate displays of stone piles to show off their dedication to their intended courtship partner. The stones found in the Glittering Fields have a luminescent quality about them, thus when they are collected into piles and observed in the moonlit, they shine like the stars in the sky. Cats will find a secluded location in their territory to pile up the stones, and then present it to their partner. If the partner accepts, they will dissemble the stones together, and put them back in the Glittering Fields together, keeping only one stone for their nest. If the courted cat refuses, the cat that made it will pull it down by themselves and try again. Offering multiple cats the same pile of stones is considered taboo and rude. |
