Ebonypaw was on another lone hunting trip on one of the less visited spots of the moor, her previously clumsy steps had turned silent, and where before she was an easy target to spot from above, she now was near-impossible to localize between the frozen terrain as she used any and all shadows on her favor.
The memory of the eagle attack and the rogue ambush was still fresh in her memories…but instead of letting that intimidate her, she embraced it. She had learned from it and she held those painful memories oh so close…she was going to make sure to lower her chances of being surprised like that ever again.
She licked her lips as she approached a rabbit that was foraging for food in this harsh climate. Her muscles tense and her whole body waiting for the lightest signal from her brain to sprint forwards with the great speed her clan was so well-known for. Eyes unblinking, all four ears low, the wind on her favor.
And just like that, in a single heartbeat, everything was over just like it started.
The rabbit most likely didn’t even know what hit it to begin with, death closing its powerful claws around its fluffy body before it even knew it was in danger to begin with. She held her catch with great pride between her jaws, tail held high and chest puffed up with pride. She looked around for a good place to hide the prey that she could recognize easily. That’s when she came upon the strange piece of terrain that almost seemed to have sunk somewhat. It wasn’t too large, but it was noticeable…easy to recognize and find again, the perfect landmark to bury her prey in.
With those thoughts, she started digging right in the center…only to stop when a muffled crunch reached her ears. She was unsure of what it was, but the question only lingered for so long before the dirt gave in under her paws, causing her to fall into the dark tunnel under her with a surprised yowl.
