Minnowpaw's Moonstone Journey

Softpaw nervously padded into the apprentices den. Even though Lichenstar promised she'd be safe from any harm on RiverClan territory, she still felt anxious at the idea of being in an enemy camp. Wildflower was sick, so Softpaw had offered to do any Moonstone journeys if needed. It was an important part of an apprenticeship; the last step before Warriorhood. She was supposed to be looking for a Minnowpaw. "Uhm, Minnowpaw? W-wake up.." She whispered, quiet yet loud enough to wake someone up.

When she saw a silver tabby pelt stir and move, she padded out of the den and gave the she-cat a curt nod. She turned and began to pad away, heading towards the border where they'd then see their way to Highstones.



They reached the moors at sunset, travelling quickly. If they were to reach highstones by moonrise, they'd need to pick up speed. She told Minnowpaw to try and keep up as the WindClan medicine broke into a sprint.

Finally, they reached highstones.



Softpaw's least favorite part came now, the part where she'd need to guide Minnowpaw down a deep, dark tunnel. She gulped. "Well, come along, Minnowpaw, we've got a ways to go," Softpaw mewed briskly, waving the apprentice forward with her tail.

After several moments of silence, the narrow tunnel expanded into a wide cavern. Looking up, Softpaw closed her eyes and started her countdown, "Three... Two... One.."



Immediately, the dark cavern was filled with light. Even after having seen it several times, it still took her breath away. "Lie down and touch your nose to the stone." Softpaw instructed.

Minnowpaw stirred to see Softpaw. So shes going to do my moonstone journey huh? She thought. After tons of walking they made it. Minnowpaw followed Softpaw into the cavern. This cavern better be glad that its dark or else I would be deciding if it looked good or not. Then they reached the moonstone. It was so stunning! Minnowpaw did as Softpaw ordered and touched her nose before laying down and drifting off to sleep.

Minnowpaw awoke in Starclan to see a cat waiting for her with stars littered in her pelt. She white almost silver fur with dark green eyes. "Minnowpaw how you've grown." Minnowpaw felt tears swell up in her eyes. "Mom?" She said as tears began running down her cheeks. "Mom!" Minnowpaw ran up to Starclan she-cat her mother, Fishtail. "Oh Minnowpaw me and your father deeply miss you. Ivyfeather raised you so well." Minnowpaw and Fishtail touched noses with each other before Fishtail started speaking again.

"Minnowpaw you've grown quite big. Your my height now. But despite your size and age you'll always be my little kit. And I have some advice to give you." Minnowpaw looked into Fishtail's eyes. "Yea mom?" "Minnowpaw you have opened your heart for your adopted kin and for love, but not friendship. You have talked with cats at gatherings but you are still rivals with your different clans. You need to open your heart for friends that'll last for moons. Promise me you'll use this advice." Fishtail's dark green eyes looked into Minnowpaw's. Minnowpaw nodded. "Of course. I promise." Minnowpaw then buried her face into Fishtail's chest fur. "I miss you mom every single day." Fishtail nuzzled her daughter. "As do I my little kit. But don't worry. Me and your father are watching proudly from Starclan. And one day you'll be able to join us. We cannot talk any longer now my kit. Your waking. Goodbye my little kit. I'll always be watching you." Minnowpaw didn't want to wake up. She wanted to stay with Fishtail longer. But instead of crying out that she didn't wanna say goodbye to her mother she said, "I'll miss you. Bye mom!"

And soon enough Minnowpaw woke up. She turned her gaze towards Softpaw unaware that she was still sobbing. She nodded to the Medicine cat apprentice that she was ready to leave.
