Adder by the River [Closed]

Wolfstorm padded into the apprentice den, quietly waking up Adderpaw. He stepped out of the den, waiting for his new apprentice to come out. ”Training time!” he mewed, and started heading out of camp. ”We’re gonna hunt today!” he stopped at the river, near a spot where many fish swam. It would be a perfect spot to learn!

Though Adderpaw was rather eager to venture out in the territory, she valued her sleep more than rising early. When she felt the gentle paws of her mentor prodding at her ribs, a guttural groan escaped her maw. She knew they had to train... but why so early? With a slight eye roll, she rose to her paws and shook out her fluffy fur, picking out small twigs and leaves that had clung to it while she slept. "How exciting," The sarcasm was rather evident in her tone, and she was hardly awake enough to try and hide it. Following behind her mentor, she tried to make note of the path they had taken to get to the river, imbedding it into her memory. "It can't be that hard." The fluffy black she-cat remarked, staring at her reflection in the water.

Wolfstorm snorted. He wasn’t quite sure how he was gonna deal with this, but it would be alright. ”So, today we are gonna fish. It’s the main way our clan gets food. Now, is how me what you think you would do if you were too fish.” he mewed, wanting to see what his apprentice a
already knew, so he had a good starting point.

"Well I would hope so, I'm only an apprentice but I'm pretty sure mice don't swim." She retorted, looking at her reflection in the water. Offering nothing more than a curt nod, she crouched down until her belly was nearly touching the sandy bank beneath her, watching the surface of the water for shadows. When the flash of silver scales caught her eye, she darted her paw into the water clumsily- it didn't seem to matter, though, as her claw hooked around it and she pulled it out of the water with ease. After quickly ending the fish's life with a quick nip, she dropped it at her mentor's paws. "Told you it wouldn't be hard."

Wolfstorm listened to her. Okay, it might have been a bit obvious, but some kits and apprentices weren't the smartest. But Adderpaw didn’t need to call him out. However, he focused again as he watched the young she-cat, and she killed the fish quickly. He lit up with happy surprise. ”That was good!” he mewed encouragingly. Wanting to join in, her crouched down, angling so his shadow wasn’t in the water. He popped up for a moment. ”Oh, remember to keep your shadow out of the water.” he mewed before coming back down. Soon a small fish was pleasantly swimming through the river, howver the voyage was cut short by the fluffy grey tom attempting to catch it. He killed it swiftly and dropped it beside Adderpaw’s catch.

Adderpaw hardly spared her mentor a glance when he caught a fish of his own. Instead, she focused her gaze back onto the surface of the water, making sure to keep her shadow beneath her as Wolfstorm had instructed. When she once again saw a fish lazily swim past, unaware of the duo's presence, she slipped her already unsheathed claws into the water. After quickly withdrawing her paw from the water, she ended the fish's life quickly and placed it carefully on top of her previous catch, not bothering to seek praise from her mentor.
