Longing [solo]

There was a sense of longing in the air, a sense of foreboding. Icepaw felt it. The days were nice, warm during the day and cool during dusk and the night. But Icepaw felt unable to enjoy it. She felt like something was going to happen, and she was determined to shove the feeling aside by some solo hunting. So she trotted to the river, inhaling the fresh newleaf air, and sat down at the bank, rolling pebbles underneath her paws. The silver shapes of the fish didn't seem to notice, so she raised a paw, making sure the light wasn't casting down on it.

The shadows of a fish started to come closer, and Icepaw struck, slamming her paw into the water and hooking it upwards in hopes of catching the wiggly creature. It tried to dart around her, but Icepaw hooked her paw and flicked it up. The fish landed on the riverbank. Pleased, Icepaw nipped it on the neck, killing it. She set it down beside her, making a temporary prey pile. Her eyes traveled back to the river, and she sat down, raising her paw again. A pair of carp were coming her way, and her eyes widened hopefully.

Icepaw forced the tension in her shoulders to relax as she waited to the vital moment. And when it came, her paw flashed into the water, claws reaching for the two silver shapes. Her claws caught the first one, and for a moment, the other slowed, seemingly confused. It was a mistake. Icepaw's paw deftly swiped it into the air, and she killed both fish, adding it to the ever-growing prey pile.

She was still tense, but proud of her catch, and decided to go for land prey. She wasn't quite as good as that, but it was a good chance to practice. She glanced around for land prey, but found none. Remembering the warriors chat, she realized she had to scent it. Unlike fish, land prey was hard to spot.

She tasted the air, pinpointing that musky scent- what was it, again? Oh, how she wished she were as good as catching land prey as fish. Land prey carried a muskiness that was different from fish, but not unpleasant. Her eyes widened as she pinpointed the cause of the scent: a small mouse. Frantically remembering her lessons, she tiptoed towards it, but her tail brushed a frond of bracken. The mouse snickered at her and darted away. Frustrated, Icepaw returned back to her fish, ready to lug the three beauties home.
