Lesson Number One

Sandbreeze led his new apprentice out of camp and through the forest, his pawsteps silent as he walked. He'd already spoken to Lightningstar about his son's training. There would be no free passes from him, though be suspected that's why he was chosen as the kit's mentor. Eventually, they reached the sandy hollow and sandbreeze sat and looked back at Badgerkit. "What do you want to do first?" Sandbreeze asked him.

(PAW!)

Badgerpaw looked up at sandbreeze thinking. “I will do hunting first because the clan will need a lot of hunters to get food!” He mewed at his new mentor. Badgerpaw was excited to show how much stronger he was than his little brother cinder.

"Alright, catch me and then we can go hunting," Sandbreeze said casually. Of course, he had no intention of letting his fresh-out-of-the-nursery apprentice catch him, but it would be a good chance to build up the kit's speed first, even if it was frustrating for him.

Badgerpaw nodded and chased after his mentor.


(Not really much to say...)

Sandbreeze stepped deftly to the side as Badgerpaw charged at him. "Geez, the blam will go hungry if you're that slow," he taunted lightly.

Badgerpaw hissed at his mentor and pounced. “I. AM. NOT. SLOW!” He yowled at Sandbreeze.

(Rip now both my cats mentors are going down. Never anger a cat who has a temper lol)

Sandbreeze could see he'd touched a nerve in his apprentice. We'll have to try and fix that. He lowered his head in a more battle ready manner than his usual nonchalant pose. "Please, we'd all starve if it was up to you catching anything," he added, further feuling Badgerpaw's anger.

Badgerpaw unsheathed his claws and attacked. Even though the Tom wasn’t trained in battling he still knew a few moves. “I WILL BE THE BEST HUNTER!” he spat as he swiped his claws at Sandbreeze.

Sandbreeze raised a paw swiped it across Badgerpaw's face, careful to keep his claws sheathed. "You may carry an apprentice name, but you still behave like a kit," he said sternly. "If you let your anger get to you, your enemies will use it against you every time. You control it!" the tom said, his amber eyes burning into Badgerpaw's. Come on, focus. I know you can.

Badgerpaw stopped attacking and kept quiet all while glaring at Sandbreeze.

Sandbreeze is gonna be a tough love kind of teacher

"Control... this is your first lesson. You need to have complete control over yourself
Your emotions, your mouth, your body. Do you understand?" Sandbreeze asked calmly, hoping it would sink in.

Badgerpaw silently nodded but his glare did go away. If he wanted to be the best this black and white Tom had to listen to the warrior’s advice. “Ok let’s start.” he mewed with a tiny smile.

Good. He's actually listening. "Alright, now we can begin hunting. When you hunt, you have to be absolutely calm. Any mistake, and your pretty gets away. So, how would a rabbit discover you?" Sandbreeze asked, assessing how much Badgerpaw already knew.

(No not my pretty!)

Badgerpaw looked up at Sandbreeze ready to answer. “Either you are too loud and it can easily hear with it’s big ears or the wind carries your scent towards the prey.” He mewed what his father recited in his head over and over.
