scramble to reach higher ground

Alarm and sheer terror took hold of the apprentice as he noticed the way the rogue tom went straight for Blizzardpaw's throat, as if she were no more than a piece of prey for him to tear into, and he forced himself to convert the terror into anger. A guttural yowl broke from the tom, a scream for help in the quiet forest - where were his clanmates? Silverstar, Sorrelwing, Breezebranch, his siblings - Lionpaw had to protect Blizzardpaw and Mistedsong, and he looked around in horror as he heard an earth shattering loud yowl from the direction the medicine cat had pelted off in. Everything in him told him to go and find the disabled medicine cat, but he knew Blizzardpaw would meet StarClan if he left, and the cream tom could never forgive himself.

The other apprentice recovered enough to dole out a nasty blow of her own, and he felt satisfaction spread beneath his pelt as blood leaked out from the tom who had so mercilessly begun to attack. He saw the slight grimace in the molly's movements, and it struck him that this is not what she trains for, this goes against everything a medicine cat stands for - oh StarClan how was Mistedsong coping right now? Instinctively bushing out his pelt to make him look bigger, attempting to disguise how much muscle he actually had, the tom spat defiance at Gus, "Leave us alone, you mangy rogue! We didn't do anything to you!" Letting out another loud yowl, he dove with long claws outstretched for the rogue. Satisfaction rippled through him as his claws tore into Gus's pelt, clawing it out by the pawful and praying that eventually the older tom would tire and leave so he could assist the other medicine cat. Or so that him and Blizzardpaw would live to see another day.

Shrikepaw was on patrol with a couple of other SkyClan cats when she heard a commotion. Exchanging a glance with her companions, she didn't wait for them to react. After all, there were rogues in the forest, and one could never trust a cat that lived outside of a Clan. The black and white she-cat took off into the undergrowth, following the sounds until she was close enough to recognize them as the battle cries of other cats. When she was close enough to see what was happening, her claws unsheathed and her fur began to bristle with her white hot anger.

She turned on Hulk, absolutely disgusted by his actions against Mistedsong. "StarClan will strike you down for attacking a medicine cat, you Clanless foxdung!" She spat, using the distraction of Mistedsong's attack and the way Hulk was facing the tree to launch herself for the much larger tom's shoulders and dug in with her front claws. She knew her much smaller size put her at a disadvantage, and she didn't expect to do much damage, but her goal at this point was to get his attention away from the medicine cat. She pulled back with her claws, desperate to put any kind of distance between Hulk and Mistedsong, and sent up a silent prayer that the rest of her patrol followed quickly.

Breezebranch has been leading the patrol when she heard Lionpaw's screech. Without hesitation, or discussion with her fellow warriors, she launched herself down the slope, just overtaking Shrikepaw. With a screech of utter fury, she launched herself onto the rogue attacking her son. "Leave my son alone, you foxhearted weasels!" She hissed, lashing out with her claws.

After knocking the tom off she whirled and hissed, scratching and hissing and biting whilst spitting insults. "Get Blizzardpaw out of here, Lionpaw! I'll handle this peice of foxdung!" She told her son, then, after a thought of his hesitation, she added, "Shrikepaw and I will handle these two, get Mistedsong and get out of here! The rest of my patrol will come soon, now go!"

With the warrior now distracted by Parsley who'd joined the fight, Gus could focus on his original opponent. Rushing forward, he slapped a paw full of sharp claws against Blizzardpaw's maw and a smile grew on his muzzle. That's gotta sting. "We'll take back our land one way or another!" he yowled, jumping back.

"You lot are like rats!" Hulk snarled around a mouthful of bloodied flesh, giving Mistedsong another merciless shake- likely rattling the toms eyes around in his skull for an uncomfortably long moment. Striking viciously at the lackluster Medicine Cat's vulnerable belly with a brutal strength, the tail-less Rogue rounded on the small young cat who had evidently come to defend the useless opponent stuck hapless within his grasp. "Where there's one, there's hundreds. You smell about as appetizing as one, to begin with!" Catching the small splotched Apprentice across the head with a broad paw, Hulk dropped low and flashed a mouthful of appalling teeth in a cruel grin.

Mistedsong's mouth split open in a blood-curdling yowl of pain as he was shook like a dog toy by the massive rogue, dropping limply to the ground when Hulk rounded on Shrikepaw. It took him more physical effort than he could ever remember expending since right after he sustained his back injury to stand and try to crawl out of the rogue's grasp while he was distracted by the cats who had come to help. His bloodied paws dug into the ground to drag himself forwards, unable to stand properly, leaving smears of bloody mud behind him. Furious determination fueled the normally demure medicine cat-- he would not die, not now, not when his kin needed him most.

Mistedsong used Escape, dealing 1 damage to Hulk.

Fear would be a bit of a understatement for Blizzardpaw at the time. The rogue was scary-strong, and dear StarClan, she was terrified.

The taste of blood made itself present on the young she-cat’s tongue as the large rogue slashed her muzzle, causing her to stumble backwards. This battle was not going in their favor, that was clear to see, so either they would need to flee or pray for help from the Stars to get backup soon.

As she regained her balance, her gaze landed on a nearby tree and flashbacks of the very few training she had, as well as watching other cats train during her time bored previous to this fight, quickly danced across her vision. With a deep breath and in hopes of maybe helping out a bit more, she attempted to rush towards the tree and perform a move she never thought she would need to use as a Meddie.

Terror gripped him with iron claws as Blizzardpaw was struck down once more, and gratitude flowed through every bone in his body as Breezebranch and Shrikepaw joined the fray, with his mother landing a good blow on the rogue attacking the medicine cat apprentice. Nodding in mute shock at his mother, he went to lead the alabaster she-cat out of the clearing, back to camp where she could process everything that happened. But as he went to call out to her, she was already halfway up a tree and Breezebranch had been tackled by a third rogue, though she was alright to hold her own - it was Breezebranch for StarClan's sake, the she-cat was capable of anything and everything, and would beat this mangy rogue to a pulp.

Rather than stick around Gus - who he was now left alone with - the cream tom pelted over to Shrikepaw and Mistedsong, absolute horror taking over his features as he noticed the blood that absolutely coated the other tom's pelt. "Hold in there, I'll get you back to camp, come on," his voice was taut with stress and urgency, the medicine cat had crawled somewhat far from the absolute brute that was now decimating Shrikepaw, but he knew that distance could be closed within seconds. Crouching down, the large tom waited for Mistedsong's claws to pierce through his thick fur so he could lift him onto his back, and away from the blood-ravaged clearing. Though he hadn't been struck himself, blood from his clanmates and the rogues splattered on his light pelt and brought energy to his paws he wouldn't have had otherwise.

He glanced at Shrikepaw with guilt in his eyes, and around at his other clanmates, Blizzardpaw halfway up a tree, Breezebranch battling a rogue on her own. Lionpaw could not believe he was about to leave them to fight a losing battle, but he had to, the clan could not function without its medicine cat and Mistedsong was about to be on death's door if he left him here any longer. He could only hope they wouldn't hold it against him, and that nothing bad would happen to his clanmates that he was about to run away from.

Shrikepaw saw stars for a moment after the blow landed, and she had to blink hard to clear her vision. She was failing in her attempts to protect Mistedsong, she was afraid, and so when she saw Lionpaw spring to action, she felt relief. She met his gaze as he looked back at them, blinking in reassurance. Her look said it's ok, get him out of here. I've got this.

Well, she certainly didn't have this, but that was okay. Their medicine cat was the important thing, and she didn't want Lionpaw to waste precious time on trying to help her out. She flicked her tail as extra encouragement for him to go, before launching herself back at Hulk, claws reaching to slash that smug look off his face.

Hissing as another rogue sprung on top of her, she hissed and whirled, clawing and scratching at the she-cat rogue who'd jumped out at her. "I'm going nowhere until you're crowfood!" Satisfied that the she-cat would leave her alone, she turned back to her other opponent, springing up a tree just as Blizzardpaw had. She urged Lionpaw to leave with her eyes, and was relieved to see Mistedsong- bloody though he may be- beside him. Giving him a nod, she turned her focus back to the brute who'd attacked Blizzardpaw and her son.

Breezebranch used Claws & Teeth on Parsley, dealing 6 ( 4 + 2 ) damage! Breezebranch turns around and jumps up a tree!
