Practice Makes Perfect [solo]

Sunpaw carefully trekked through the pines, his bright ginger fur very much out of place in the sparse underbrush. His ears were pricked and his mouth was parted for any sound or scent of prey. His bright amber eyes glowed with a determination to bring back something impressive to his clanmates. He stopped short among the tree trunks to focus, his whiskers twitching as he took in his surroundings.

Sunpaw heard it before he could see it or scent it-- he whipped around to confront whatever it was that was headed his way. It sounded much bigger than any prey animal, and if it was running for him, it must be a predator. His fur fluffed out as he realized he stood out like a target among the pines with no coverage to hide, extending his claws as he braced himself for a fight.

'Predator Dice' :

Sunpaw only barely caught sight of the eagle as it swooped, instinctively dropping down to try and duck the talons reaching for him. When he saw that impact with those sharp talons was immanent, he thought back to his battle training. In a flash, he pushed off into a jump with his hind paws, his forepaws outstretched and claws extended to try and defend himself from being picked off the ground like nothing more than a mouse.

The two collided and Sunpaw could feel his claws meet feathers while talons promptly dug into his fur. With a yowl, he started clawing blindly at the eagle, adrenaline starting to course through him as he fought.

The eagle began to beat its wings fervently as Sunpaw landed a few blows. It broke free from his flailing claws and took off into the air again. Sunpaw got back onto his paws and shook out his fur when the bird dove again and slammed into him. With a yowl, he was knocked off his paws as the eagle tackled him. He twisted under the eagle's weight and began churning both front and back paws to slash again with his claws.

"Stupid bird! Don't mess with SkyClan!" Sunpaw hissed as he churned his paws faster, biting down hard on whatever he could get his teeth on in the struggle. He kept his jaws clamped tight as the eagle started swiping at him with its talons once it realized the apprentice was latched on.

The eagle's talons ripped out a chunk of Sunpaw's fur-- he let out a screech and twisted free. He was fighting a battle he couldn't win just by himself-- retreat was much more preferable than being eaten by a bird. He rolled up onto his paws and gave the eagle one last angry swipe before he turned tail and ran.
