daydreamin' [open]

Alabaster paws shone in the light of the sun, and as the little molly made her way further out of the shadowed entrance of the nursery, her fur looked as if it could sparkle. Applekit gazed upwards, marvelling at the orange leaves that cascaded from overarching trees right down into camp, littering the dusty floor with vibrant hues. Casting a glance behind her to make sure she wasn't about to be berated for her next actions, she let out a joyous squeak and charged forward into a pile of leaves, tumbling over as she lost her balance. Purring, she stood back up with her tail stuck straight out in the air, and looked around for another kit to play with. For some reason, doing this on her own just wasn't the same. Pouting lightly as she noticed the lack of other cats around, she sat back on her haunches and began to groom the pieces of leaves that had broken into her tail-fur.

Hazel eyes peered out of the mouth of the nursery. Rowankit quietly watched as Applekit running and tumbling through the fallen leaves. He sniffed deeply, inhaling the crisp scent of cool air and the faint, sickly sweet decay that proceeded the coming leafbare. Though not particularly warm, the chill of leaffall didn't penetrate his long, fluffy coat. Rowankit padded into the clearing towards his denmate. He paused, looking up at the trees, leaves dappled red, orange, and gold danced in the breeze creating a pleasant rustling noise. With a blink, he turned back to Applekit, completing the journey and gently, though a bit clumsily, tugging a leaf fragment off her tail with his paw.

Momentary surprise lit up her face as the young tom assisted in raking out the crumbled leaf strewn through her fur, and purred lightly in gratitude, knowing that little scraps of leaf was not what the queens would want dragged back into the nursery. Stepping back a little from the other kit Applekit shook out her fur, a last ditch attempt to get the rest of the leaves out of her coat. What a terrible decision that had been, to throw herself into a dead pile of fronds- but to be fair, now she had someone to play with! "Hi, I'm Applekit!" the calico purred, facing her new friend with a swishing tail. "What's your name, and would you like to play with me?" she asked, patiently awaiting an answer. Oh how she hoped it would be a yes!

Rowankit blinked slowly, tipping his fluffy head slightly to the side. "I'm Rowankit." he mewed. "Sure, I guess I'll play with you." The brown tabby glanced around the clearing. "What did you wanna play?" He wasn't particularly good at most games nor did he find them particularly fun. But Mom was always telling him to be more friendly and try to fit in with the other kits so might as well humor Applekit.
