the hunt begins [solo]

The ShadowClan deputy led Foxpaw out into the territory. While she had practiced her stance to perfection in the safety of camp, it was time for her to show her skills.

Foxpaw followed along easily. She could tell after spending 5 seconds with Firestar that she was a natural at this. It took her no time to follow the deputy and jump straight into hunting alongside him.

She quickly crouched down and stalked the scent of toad she found.

The she-cat caught the toad with ease, burying it before continuing on and chasing the scent of frog she found next.

While Foxpaw hunted the smaller amphibians, Magpiewing searched for small critters. It was a warmer night than usual, letting little shrews leave their homes and leaving them for the deputy to hunt.

Both of the cats successfully caught their prey, burying them quickly and then continuing on forward. Just one more each and Magpiewing was sure the clan would be more than happy.

While Foxpaw just barely caught her last toad, Magpiewing dove right into the face of a snarling fox. He yowled, alerting Foxpaw to the encounter so she could come dashing back to help fight the creature off.

Foxpaw vs a Fox. She couldn't help but think it might be fate.

Both Magpiewing and Foxpaw lunged forward, claws up and ready to tear its red pelt to shreds. Foxpaw dashed behind the predator, aiming for its flank to avoid immediate attention. Magpiewing was ruthless, using moons of harsh training to rip at its chesta.

The fox retaliated with its own claws, dragging them across Magpiewing's shoulder.

The fox cried out. Foxpaw took the opportunity to lunge once more, ready to tear the other leg. Magpiewing followed up with his own claws, aiming for the creature's neck.

The fox lurched back, jumping away from the two before charging forward and barreling into Magpiewing.

Magpiewing was knocked down but was quick to jump to his paws. He was hurt, his body sore and his shoulder bleeding but now was not the time to complain. Foxpaw noticed her deputy, running over to take the next hit for the black tom.

The fox was hurt in turn, his flank bleeding and his growls growing closer to a whimper with each breath. Only a few more hits and they were sure it would run away.

Foxpaw bit down on the creature's leg, claws raking its shoulder. Magpiewing followed up with an attack on its side.

All the fox could do was try to pry Foxpaw off its leg with its strong jaw.

Magpiewing used Claws and Teeth. Magpiewing rolled a 2, causing a total of 6 damage.

The Fox's HP has reached below 1/3 of its original health. The Fox flees the battle.

The creature dropped the apprentice, yelping in pain as it rushed away from the pair. Foxpaw let the air fill her lungs as she rose from the ground, licking her chest to ease the pain from the fox's fangs. Magpiewing huffed, swiping his tongue over his hurt shoulder. The bleeding would stop shortly, but he would need to see a medicine cat to prevent any infections.

"You did great, Foxpaw. I don't think I need to worry about training you for battle," he meowed. The she-cat couldn't help but purr at the compliment.

The pair quickly scooped up the prey they collected. Foxpaw lent the deputy a shoulder occasionally on their way back to camp. It was good that they got some fresh-kill before that fox showed up.
