Swift as a Hawk [Closed]

Her first apprentice. Hawkflight shuddered slightly thinking about it. She was so used to being solitary - leaping between the trees, hunting down birds and other prey that otherwise would be out of reach for the clan. It had definitely come in use during the scarce prey season. With more and more birds returning though, Hawkflight had to limit just how much she hunted. Both for her physical ability, and the sake of making sure the birds actually did come back. With a tall tail, hooked at the top with enthusiasm, the youthful warrior stopped her pacing around camp to finally go summon her apprentice. She’d see just what they knew from hearing stories around the camp, then dive right into helping them catch at the very least their first mouse.

“Swiftpaw? Meet me by the entrance to camp when you are ready to leave.” She called.

Swiftpaw was awake and caught the scent of her mentor. ‘Must be time to train’ She thought to herself and she padded out to HawkFlight. The little brown deaf cat was excited to learn even if she had a disability.

It wasn't until a moment later that Hawkflight had realized how she had already somewhat slipped up, but she swallowed it down. Swiftpaw was deaf. Immediately the she-cat's mid began racing with what she could do, but seeing her apprentice she dipped her head in greeting. Standing tall, she brought Swiftpaw over to the fresh-kill pile. With her tail, she motioned to the pile, and then to the apprentice. It was in Hawkflight's attempt to tell Swiftpaw that today she would be learning how to hunt. Taking a moment, she also mimicked a pounce, before once more pointing to her apprentice. Looking for a sign that the young apprentice understood, Hawkflight's head tilted slightly for confirmation.

Swiftpaw noticed HawkFlight making Hunting motions and also pointing at the prey. ’Oh we are hunting’ she thought as she looked back at HawkFlight. She decided to try the new word out. “Hunt? Ok.” she said a little shakily but was able to get the word out, even if it was too loud.

Hawkflight nodded enthusiastically at Swiftpaw's response. It would take some time to really be able to establish communication between the two, but if at the very least she could communicate what they were doing, it would be easy to show them otherwise. Signaling with her tail to follow Swiftpaw out of camp into the territory, she made it some way out before stopping. Listening to the forest to hear there were some birds nearby, she looked to her apprentice curiously. Placing a paw on her nose, Hawkflight did her best to ask "What do you smell?"

Swiftpaw opened her jaw and caught the scent of a Squirrel. She looked around until she spotted the little red creature in a tree. Swiftpaw pointed with her tail and the Squirrel than back at her mentor excitement and eagerness clearly shining in her green eyes.

Hawkflight nodded to her apprentice, signaling for the she-cat to watch her frame as she dropped low towards the forest floor. Gliding forward, Hawkflight aimed her frame towards a nearby tree that wasn't containing the squirrel to ensure that she left it for her apprentice to handle. Close enough to the tree in front of her, Hawkflight launched herself upwards from her back legs, jumping slightly up the trunk of the tree far enough to grab a very low-hanging leaf and bring it back down.

From there, the warrior signaled for the apprentice to try something similar for the squirrel, which had resorted to crawling lower down the tree and closer to the forest floor - and thus, Swiftpaw.

Swiftpaw smiled before catching the scent of a rabbit. She went into the hunters crouch and stalked towards the little creature. She made sure the rabbit didn’t see her before she pounced. She killed the rabbit and headed back to HawkFlight.
