Elkpaw's Moonstone Journey

What was that terrible noise?

Logleap's head snapped upwards as a bird erupted in joyous call. If he had a warrior's skill, the bird would be unable to chirp another note. And then, as most warriors do, he would eat the foolish bird. But alas, he was Logleap the medicine cat and it appeared even nature was against his relaxation. Or maybe he could shift closer to the wall of his den and stuff his ears with moss. Sleep would -

oh stars. The tom leaped to his paws as a sudden realization slammed into his head. Elkpaw! Moonstone! He glanced outside, and his heart practically jumped out of his chest as he saw the golden rays of the sun peeking over the treeline. Going on a journey after dawn? It was a dangerous gamble - but one that he would have to take. All of Lightningstar's offspring were approaching their ceremonies. He stuffed his maw with herbs, barely giving himself time to swallow the strength herbs. Then, as carefully as he could in the rush he was in, grabbed the remaining herbs.

He stumbled out of the medicine cat den. Elkpaw - apprentice den. Logleap dropped the herbs at the entrance. He lumbered into the other den. Oops. He had never been insid, at least, not in recent memory. "Hi. Hey." Logleap greeted the half-asleep apprentices."Elkpaw?"

Elkpaw had awoken no less than a heartbeat ago before Logleap chimed in. Groggily, he murmured a dismayed, "Whaa? Logleeaap?" before blinking hard and realizing he was awake. He coughed awkwardly, bringing himself up to his feet and jumping out of his nest. Embarrassed that he'd been caught like that, he brushed past the medicine cat and left the apprentices den to quickly groom his chest fur down that was sticking up. Heart beating as fast as a hare's, he sunk his claws into the ground and awaited the older tom to stand next to him so he could collect himself better this time. "Good morning," he said quietly, head tall.
