Wispkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Soft sunlight cast subtle shadows across the clearing, and the mottled she-cat was glad to find no cold winds whipped through the air and pierced deep into her thick pelt. The scent of new growth was abundant, and for the first time in moons there was enough on the fresh-kill pile for every cat to go to their nests comfortably full tonight. A light purr escaped the deputy as she stretched out, before ascending to the top of Tallrock in a single bound. ""Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather underneath Tallrock for a clan meeting!" Heronfeather called, waiting for the clan to assemble.

Wispkit padded out with her mother next to her. She was still too shy to be around lots of cats so she tried to hide as everyone looked at her walking by. The two she-cats sat down in the front row waiting for the meeting to begin.


Fernstep was so excited for her daughter to become an apprentice and was helping her as they padded up to the front row. She nodded in greeting to her friend, Heronfeather, as she sat down next to her daughter trying to help the little she-cat with her confidence.

A small smile graced her lips as she laid eyes on her friend, Fernstep's kit, and she noticed the stark difference from the rebellious streak Fernstep had been experiencing at her kin's age as Wispkit visibly shied away from the clan at every opportunity - including her apprentice ceremony of all things. She needs a cat who can build up her confidence, hopefully I've made the right choice, she thought as she cleared her throat to speak again. "Wispkit, please step forward," Heronfeather called gently, hoping it wouldn't freak the little she-kit out too much to have been singled out like this. "You have reached the age of 6 moons and as such are ready to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you become a warrior, your new name will be Wisppaw. Your mentor shall be Rimefang, I'm confident he will pass on everything he learned from his mentor." With that, the ceremony was at an end, and the deputy quickly jumped down to congratulate her friend on her daughter's apprenticeship.

Wisppaw smiled shyly at Rimefang and touched noses with him before running back to her mother. She had tears in her eyes as her excitement was messing with her emotions. She cried into her mother’s fur as fernstep spoke to the deputy.

Fernstep smiled at her friend and after they talked for a bit she lead wisppaw to the apprentice den, her new home. Hopefully her siblings would join the now named apprentice or fernstep would worry all night long.

Rimefang had come to watch the ceremony just out of sheer boredom, unsure of the actual nature of the Clan meeting. His ears perked up from where he'd spaced out thinking about how pretty Heronfeather looked atop the Tallrock with the sunlight lighting her fur as his name was called, eyes finding the daughter of his friend, Fernstep. He'd seen her hanging around Fernstep's legs from time to time, and a soft smile curled his lips as he realized he was finally a mentor. "I look forward to training with you," he meowed, touching his nose to the small she-cat's and watching her run back to her mother with a look of amusement.
