The early morning sky was already flavored with the troublesome promise of heat, an uncharacteristic dryness that intermingled heavily with the faintest remnant of late evening dampness- the final traces of the wild Newleaf storm slowly dissipating somewhere just beyond the horizon, the prominent heat of the day already burning away the dew that clung heavily to the blossoming foliage. The torrential rains, sky-splitting thunder, and brilliant lightning had easily kept Acornpaw from sleeping through the night, but witnessing her first summer storm had been a bit too exciting to skip out on.

Shaking away the nagging prickle of uncomfortable heat that was already building just below the surface of her mottled fur, Acornpaw dropped a slender shoulder into the soft earth of the camp floor, flopping down onto her side with all of the grace of a completely blind badger attempting to navigate a swath of thorns. The warm weather was definitely exciting, but she had been born during the cold moons; even the slight difference in temperature made it difficult for her to stay focused on the task at paw, instead of how hot and sluggish she currently felt. And nothing sounded worse than having to deal with the damp heat and mud!

Letting out a dramatic, grandiose sigh, the young tortioshelle threw a mournful glance in the direction of the entrance to camp, untroubled in displaying her wistfulness. Sorrelwing had warned that she would be busy for the duration of the day, likely leaving Acornpaw stranded in camp with nothing better to do.

"Acorn!"

Bouncing on the tip of her claws, the exuberant mottled-face she-cat bounded over, tail weaving in a sashay. Eyes like glowing amber, bright as a sunset. The storm of heat had hardly troubled the molly, who, unlike her sister, could sleep through a hurricane. A bubbly laughter escaped her as she flopped down on top the tortoiseshell, rolling, and rolling, until both were thoroughly covered in mud. Giggles lit up her eyes as a purr rose from her throat, nose wrinkling slightly as she laughed with a child-like innocence she'd never truly lost.

Her ginger splotches on her face seemed radiant, the dark gray more shiny as she giggled, showing just how truly she hadn't changed since kithood. Everything about her seeped innocence and purity, from her still poofy pelt to the way her eyes seemed to have an undying light in them. Her paws moved with no grace and she snored worse than a badger-- if they did snore. From her maw tumbled more words than a leader if they'd performed ceremonies from Moonhigh to Sundown.

Grace was not in her forte, nor even in her vocabulary. Sticking her tongue out, she playfully pawed Acornpaw, flicking some dirt into the air, a grin lacing her lips. "Gotcha, Acorn! What'cha doin all alone, hmm?" Mudpaw purred, curiosity in her orange eyes as she gazed fondly at her sister, eyes locking as they lay together in the mud.

Dismay crept through the narrow confines of Acornpaw's circulatory system in a steady, yet entirely relentless, flood of chilly adrenaline. Allowing the lean expanse of her muscles to remain forcibly soft and trusting despite Mudpaw's less than careful handling, the small tortoiseshell was easily sent sprawling alongside her littermate- only an unsettled squawk bursting forth from her lungs signifying her protest to the entire moment. Aquiline features twisting up into a little scowl, obviously lacking any true irritation or heat, the young molly purposely dropped a slight forepaw onto her sister's cheek; a small muddy imprint creeping across the soft wisps that decorated the pale she-cat's face. "I was thinking of maybe doing something I'm not supposed to do," Acornpaw puffed out, an unwarranted shiver wracking its way down her spine at the unpleasant feeling of mud probing through her admittedly thin coat, "But now I think I'll have to just clean myself up!"
