Waterlilies [closed]

Lilypaw bounded out of camp excitedly. She was finally allowed to go out on her own, without escort. She hadn’t been allowed for a while after the whole thing with Smoke, and it had delayed her warrior ceremony. Today she wouldn’t be hunting, just taking a walk, maybe climbing some trees. The tortoiseshell flicked her tail in goodbye. She wanted to do this alone, to experience the forest by herself once again. They all trusted her now, and she wouldn’t fall in love with a random loner she met this time.

Her green eyes darted towards a tree, and she climbed up it excitedly. Unlike some of her siblings, she had inherited nearly all of her mother’s traits, including her Skyclan build. She barely showed any signs of her Windclan heritage. In fact, it was very hard to tell that her father hadn’t been from the clan. As she reached the top, she smiled down, her eyes glinting with please. It was calm out here, a cool breeze ruffled her fluffy fur.

A beautiful butterfly flapped by, and Lilypaw was enraptured by the beautiful wonder of it. She scaled down the tree, following it in a happy daze. She didn’t even notice as they neared the border, she happily chased the butterfly, her smile as wide as the sky. The butterfly flitted over the river, and the apprentice still didn’t notice it’s flight path. However, she did chase it, falling straight into the river. Shocked, she let out a gasp, but that gasp was her remaining air. She sunk, weighed down by her thick pelt. Her eyes flashed with fear.

She didn’t want to drown. She had a happy life, with a good family. And not only that, her family would be so sad. She could imagine Brindlepaw, Mudpaw, Swiftbranch, Breezebranch, Iceheart, Lionflame, Maplepaw, all of her family. And suddenly, her life flashed before her eyes. She remembered being a mewing kit, sucking on her mother’s milk with all of her siblings. It flashed to her playing mossball with her family. And her apprentice ceremony! Training for the first time. And meeting Smoke. When he came to live with her. Everything she had experienced, she relived, with a vivid realism.

Lilypaw awoke from the dazed reality, although she hadn’t been asleep. She had started to run out of breath, and was feeling dizzy. Her frantic flailing around did no good. She couldn’t swim, not like the Riverclan cats. She could barely move her paw! She soon felt the breath leaving, and she swayed a bit. She tried to take a breath, but instead gulped down lots of water. Out of breath, her sight flickered, open and closed. She soon saw black, and her head dropped. Her tail drooped. And she lost consciousness.

Waterpaw was doing a border patrol by himself as he wanted to walk alone and noticed a cat in the corner of his yellow eye. He didn’t think much of it until he noticed it was in the river and drowning! He quickly ran to the river and without thinking he jumped in. His thick white fur stuck to his skin as the Riverclan Tom swam towards the drowning cat. Right before the cats head went completely under, he grabbed her by the scruff and dragged her towards the river bank.


When he got to the shore, Waterpaw pawed at her trying to see if she was alive. When the she-cat started coughing up water he was relieved and as she opened her eyes, he smiled down at her. “Are you okay?” He asked not really knowing what to do if she was injured as he wasn’t a medicine cat.

Lilypaw didn’t feel the splash as the tom dove into the water, nor him dragging her up from the bottom. Her limp body laid on the shore, seemingly still, until she coughed. She started to sputter up water, it emptying from her body. Her green eyes opened, and she saw a white tom.  He asked her if she was ok, and she assumed he had saved her.

”Sorta..” she mewed, breathing heavily. Her body still felt weak, and she was very out of breath, but she did feel better. She smiled at him shakily. ”Thank you. I’m Lilypaw, of Skyclan.” she introduced herself. She assumed the tom was a Riverclan cat, as he had swam. His build was smaller, and his paws looked webbed. Yep, definitely Riverclan.

She owed so much to him. He had literally saved her life, she would’ve drowned without him. It was extremely lucky he had been passing by. And that he had seen her and helped her. She wasn’t sure if other Riverclan cats would do the same. They were in an alliance, however which did make the tension very loose between the two clans.

Waterpaw smiled down at lilypaw? As she was now breathing and talking but her voice was still rough. “I’m Waterpaw of Riverclan, you might know my dad, wolfstorm.” He mewed and shook his fur of the extra water that was making his fur cling to his sides.


As Waterpaw groomed his fur he finally looked at the she-cat. She was a darkish calico with lots of fur like him. She had the usual Skyclan build and had beautiful green eyes. Now that Waterpaw was getting a good look at her, even though she was wet, he noticed just how beautiful she was. “What brings a Skyclan cat all the way over here?” He mewed with a smile and twinkle in his eyes as he asked her.

Lilypaw nodded. She had seen his father at the gathering. ”That’s cool! My mom is a warrior, and my dad, well, I never met him.” she mewed. That was a bit of a lie, she did meet him, but not when he was alive. And she barely knew Waterpaw, so she wasn’t sure if she could tell him.

Lilypaw noted his unusual pelt. It seemed to be more common in Riverclan, but a Skyclan cats never really had that pelt color. They had to blend in with trees, and the forest. The fur that the tom and his clan donned was different. He also had multicolored eyes, which glowed nicely. She giggled a bit.

”I had climbed a tree, and was sitting, when I spotted the most beautiful butterfly! I chased it and fell into the river.” she explained. It was a little silly, but it was true. And in her defense, it was an amazing butterfly! But it was a pretty dumb thing to do, in reality. She wouldn’t be chasing butterflies over the border anymore, though!

Waterpaw saw her hesitate at her father but didn’t bring it up. When she started telling her story he tried to stifle in his laughter until she was done. After she finished talking he bursted into laughter and couldn’t control himself. “Do all Skyclan cats chase butterflies or just the cute ones?” He said through his laughter.

Lilypaw giggled, and looked down. She sat up, feeling some of her strength returning. Then he said something that made her blush. ”Er..ahh..” She really didn’t know what to say! It had been kinda like this with Smoke, except, different. But she couldn’t do that stuff anymore! Even if they were in an alliance, it was still forbidden.

But Waterpaw was so nice, and kinda cute! She groaned silently. She had no clue what to do. It was a hard decision to make, but she denied to just not! She wouldn’t make the decision yet. She would wait until she knew him better, and see how she felt then.

Waterpaw looked around and noticed they were on the riverclan’s side of the river. He knew there was rocks to get to Thunderclan and they could stay at the river edge so not to get in trouble for trespassing. “Well, we need to get you back home.” He mewed to her as he got to his paws.

“We will take the rocks and walk through the part of Thunderclan that’s near the river, Or I could carry you back across the river.” He mewed letting her choose which way she wanted to go as this was her way home.

Lilypaw had enjoyed the talking, but Waterpaw was right. Who knows how long she had been gone, anyways? Breezebranch was probably getting worried. ”Um..I dunno. Maybe the Thunderclan way? I don’t really wanna go back in the river.” she looked over at the river. Those swirling waters would always bring up bad memories for her.

She stood up, leaning a bit on Waterpaw. She smiled gratefully at him. Her green eyes lit up with happiness.

Waterpaw smiled as she leaned on him as he lead her towards the Thunderclan border. He knew he probably didn’t need to take her all the way but he wanted to, not just cause he was worried but also because he could take the fall if any warriors came. As they walked Waterpaw thought about his brother and what whitepaw would think about him going to other territories, and right after he told his brother he never caused trouble.

(perfect! I’m gonna roll the predator dice then battle whatever come up!)

Lilypaw smiled, stumbling after Waterpaw. It was peaceful as she walked, gazing at Thunderclan territory. It was a forest, like Skyclan, but the trees were different. And the ground. Skyclan’s trees were taller than over here. Which is probably why her clan was more skilled at climbing.

It was nice to be in his company, but the fragile peace was soon smashed. A large dog had been lurking in the shadows waiting for it’s time to strike on the two cats. His eyes glared as he came leaping out of a bush, grabbing the weaker one. He held her in his grasp. Lilypaw hadn’t noticed him, but she was now in his grasp. She struggled to escape his tight grip. ”Help!” she gasped. Today really wasn’t her day, was it? First she almost drowned, now she got attacked by a dog. Hopefully Waterpaw knew how to fight.

Waterpaw and Lilypaw have been ambushed by a Dog! The Dog used Iron Grip on Lilypaw, dealing 4 damage.

'Predator Dice' :

Waterpaw was loving the tiny stroll but then it was suddenly ruined when lilypaw yelled for help. He looked behind him to see a dog with lilypaw in his jaw. Waterpaw quickly ran over and sprang at the dog with his claws out. He slashed his claws across the dogs side trying to make it drop her.

Lilypaw smiled as Waterpaw came into battle. She again dropped the smile as the dog gripped harder. She was glad he had come with her home, she didn’t know what she would do without him. But the dog was strong, a lot stronger than two apprentices. She wriggled, trying to escape it’s grip. But she couldn’t get out from his grasp.

The dog knew that the other cat would attack, but the smaller one came in so harshly, scraping and hissing at him. He gripped the she-cat tighter. He wished he could attack the white tom, but doing so meant he would lose his grip on the fluffy one, and she was a much more valuable prize. Her larger size meant more food for him!


The Dog continues Iron Grasp, taking away another -3 from Lilypaw. Lilypaw attempted to escape, but was unsuccessful!.

Waterpaw watched her struggle with no success and got even more mad. He stopped clawing at the dog and decided to use his teeth. The white Tom, whos fur was starting to get red, Bit down on the dogs side.

Lilypaw watched Waterpaw grow angrier. She was so happy that he cared for her so much, even though they just met. His fur was stained with blood, but she realized that none of it was his own. It was a mix of Lilypaw’s and the dog’s. Again she struggled trying to escape from his cruel grasp.

The white tom slammed into the dog again, and he barked at him angrily. His coat was stinging, but he still regained his tight grip. He started to hope that his captive would go unconscious soon, or die, so he could fight her companion. Again, he helped on too her tightly, not letting go. But, as Waterpaw struck at him again, he lost grip of the she cat. He snarled, tackling Waterpaw. He then scooped up Lilypaw again.

Lilypaw finally broke free from his grasp, falling too the ground. She watched as the opponent smashed into Waterpaw. She hissed, but the dog picked her back up again
Lilypaw escaped! The dog used Full Force Tackle on Waterpaw, dealing 10 damage! He then regained Iron Grasp on Lilypaw, dealing 4+3= 7 damage!

Waterpaw saw lilypaw gets free as the dog tackled him to the side. The dog picked her back up and he watched as she still struggled and lost even more blood. He gave up at trying to get the dog to ignore her and instead he decided to focus on doing damage instead. Waterpaw bite down on the dogs legs and also scratched where he could reach.

Lilypaw was angry that she had been picked up again with such ease. The Skyclanner would’ve battled much better if she was at full wellness today, but after nearly drowning, she certainly wasn’t. It seemed that Waterpaw was now just attempting to injure the dog instead of shaking her down. Maybe once he died or fled, she could escape from his grasp again.

The dog watched the apprentice’s eyes fill with pure rage as his eggs felt the stings. He had just attacked that tom and would do it again if he managed to lose grip on the she-cat. But she was so weak that he doubted she could do more. He tightened his grip on her again, crunching down on her.

Lilypaw could feel her consciousness fading, and didn’t feel good at all. She let out a cry of pain as he squeezed down on her even further. She tried to escape weakly, but her attempts were fruitless.

The dog continued Iron Grasp on Lilypaw, dealing 3 damage! Lilypaw attempted to escape, and failed!

Waterpaw heard her voice get quiet as she screamed out in pain and his heart broke at the sound. It was all his fault. He didn’t notice the dog. He didn’t take her the shorter way. He didn’t take her across the water. He didn’t keep her on skyclan’s side. It was all his Fault.


Waterpaw didn’t know what to do anymore. If she died it would be His Fault and he couldn’t let that happen. Waterpaw kept scratching and biting at the dog all while his eyes got glazed with tears. He couldn’t lose her, even though they just met he already saw her as a friend. Waterpaw didn’t care if he died as long as she live. He knew his family would think that was the wrong way but he never listened to anyone anyway. He sent a silent prayer to Starclan hoping his family would be alright when he was gone.
