Sunpaw's Hunting Excursion [Solo]

Sunpaw traversed the moors carefully, looking for any signs of prey. It was a beautiful day, she had to admit, even for leafbare. Though there was still the telltale bite of cold in the air. Clear skies make for colder days, Sunpaw thought. She wondered if there would be any prey to speak of.

Just then, Sunpaw caught a whiff of...something.

Just then, Sunpaw spotted the fattest robin she had ever laid eyes on. An impressive feat, given the season. She knew that hunting on the moors was different than hunting in other places: she would have to rely on her Starclan-given speed to catch this bird, but only if it spotted her. It would be easy to do in the vast emptiness of the moors, but she hoped her golden coat would blend in well enough with the grass.

When at last the robin spotted her, she sprang at the bird, hoping the distance was enough...

Success! Sunpaw felt her teeth sink into the bird's neck, after which it grew still. This was an excellent kill - a kill to be proud of. And Sunpaw was immensely proud. She strutted forth, bird in mouth, tail held high.

But maybe she could do better than this. Maybe she could go even further. As if on cue, the scent of something else wafted into Sunpaw's parted jaws.

Would you look at that, Sunpaw thought. Another bird! She dropped her robin, somewhat reluctantly, on the ground. Surely this would be worth taking her eyes off her prize, though admittedly, this bird wasn't quite as impressive as the robin. It was a small blackbird. Surely a more wiry creature than the tender robin had been.

Sunpaw lowered herself into a hunter's crouch, sneaking forward until she was spotted by the bird. Then, she dashed forward.

Another success! What were the odds? If Sunpaw was proud before she was ecstatic now. This had been a far more difficult kill than the robin, and yet she did it anyway.

I might be one of the best hunters in the clan! Sunpaw thought proudly, snatching the blackbird and her robin to take to the freshkill pile. She wished she could take a bite out of the robin right there and then. After all, hadn't she earned it? But Sunpaw was honor-bound to the clan to take it straight to the elders: give them a real delicacy! She beamed as she thought of the praise she would receive for two extraordinary kills in one hunting session.

And with that, she made her way back to Windclan's camp, tail held high.
