The ferret and the Badger (Closed)

BadgerStorm sighed as he waited yet again for his sister to wake up. She should know by now that training always starts early. As he waited BadgerStorm went over what the two would do. First he would take her hunting then a little border patrol and later if they had time he would take her out hunting again.

Ferretpaw woke up, and smoothed our her thin pelt. She greeted Badgerstorm by the edge of camp. Ever since her mother, and her mentor had gotten sick, she hadn’t been able to do much training. But her brother would be taking her out today, so it would be fun and she could learn!

BadgerStorm nodded to Ferretpaw in greeting and then motioned for her to follow. “Today we will be hunting, and then a border patrol.” he said as they walked into the woods. The sun was still rising so there was still dew on the plants. Their paws got wet as they padded along to a hunting area.

Ferretpaw grinned. ”Cool!” she followed the black and white tom out of camp. She gazed at his pelt. She had heard it resembled Thunderstar’s, her grandfather. She had never met him, eh had been dead when she was born. Still, it was cool to know that she was related to the one that started Thunderclan.

Once they got in the perfect area to hunt BadgerStorm decided it would be good to test her knowledge first. “Before we hunt I’m going to ask some questions. First question, What is the first thing your supposed to do when you catch the scent of prey.” he said and sat down, wrapping his big fluffy tail around his paws, as he waited for her.

Ferretpaw had to break into a bit of a fast-walk to catch up with him, she was still pretty small. She didn’t really know so she just took a guess. ”Uhh....stalk it?” she asked. She didn't think about it, she just caught the prey. Nobody needed to think about it, at least that’s what the apprentice thought.

“Wrong, you are supposed to go downwind from the prey before stalking it.” he mewed before going to the next question. “What is the different technique that you need when hunting a bird and mouse.” he mewed.

Ferretpaw’s eyes winded. She didn’t even know what that meant! ”Oh..” she said, wrapping her tabby tail around her paws as she sat down. ”Umm...well the bird can fly, so you need to be quieter so it doesn’t hear you? And you have to grab it quicker?” she tried again, hoping she would get it right.

“Close, The bird is faster and yes it can fly so you need to be quiet but quick. The mouse is small but has good hearing and are really smart so you need to be quiet yet smart.” he said at her. He wondered why she didn’t even know the basics. “Ok last question, What do you do if your prey gets scared by something that isn’t you.” he mewed.

Ferretpaw was glad that she had did better, but was stumped on this next question. ”Hmm...you just chase it?” Now that, that was probably not right. Ferretpaw giggled. ”I dunno. These are hard!” she grinned.

“If the prey got scared then that means a predator is near. If you chased after the prey the predator would be sure to follow you.” he mewed rolling his eyes as she laughed. “These are good things to know so remember them.”. he mewed.

Ferretpaw laughed again. ”That makes sense.” she mewed. She nodded as he finished.

“Now it’s time to hunt, show me what you got.” he mewed standing up as too watch her better.

Ferretpaw nodded. She liked to think, rather than act. She Pringle’s up, her lanky tail swishing behind her. She scented a sparrow, and approached it quickly. She leapt at it, trying to catch. She missed it and it fluttered away.

“Next time remember to be faster.” he said before getting into the bird hunting crouch and then pouncing on a nearby bird. The bird tried to fly off but his claws caught it and brought it down. He quickly killed it and buried it in the ground.

The silver tabby watched her brother. He was so much better this than her! She decided to try again, this time with a mouse. She once agin leapt on it, quicker this time, trying to catch it. She ended up catching it, and scooped it up.

“Good job, now try to catch a squirrel.” he mewed knowing those creatures were kinda tricky for a newbie.

Ferretpaw nodded, looking around for one. She locked eyes on it, and talked it quietly, before leaping onto the larger tree-climber. ”I caught it!” her eyes lit up, and she picked it up as well.

“Good job, catch a few more then we can set them back at camp before going on the patrol.” he mewed smiling at how far his little sister was coming.

Ferretpaw smiled and tried to catch the same bird again. She caught it, and smiled. It was nice, hunting.

“Let’s go.” he mewed picking up the bird he killed.

Ferretpaw nodded and headed back to camp with her brother.”That was fun!” she mewed playfully.
