A black Coal (Closed)

Blackpaw was going through the herbs and noticed that some needed to be restocked. He looked around for anyone to go with him as he collected some herbs. “C-c-coal..p-paw..” he called when he noticed the black apprentice walking by.

Coalpaw had just emerged from the apprentice's den, about to head out of camp to hunt for the clan before eating herself. She'd been making a beeline for the marshes, mind only awake enough to process the feeling of her stomach digesting itself, before a soft stutter made her paws hesitate before she even processed hearing another cat speak. She turned her head to meet the eyes of the meek medicine cat apprentice, surprise evident on her face. "Blackpaw? Is there something wrong?" The apprentice immediately found herself concerned, as Blackpaw had never actually spoken with her personally before, despite seeing plenty of each other as the Clan was rather small nowadays. Granted, she didn't think she'd ever seen him speak with anyone directly, besides his mentor.

When he got coalpaw’s attention he wasn’t surprised that the other apprentice thought something was wrong with him. “I-I’m..f-f-fine...i-I’m..Lo-low...o-on-n... h-he-herbs.” he said. He knew not many people heard him speak and sometimes it scared him on what they would think. So what if he was born with a stutter, he wasn’t shy or anything.

The black she-cat relaxed, thankful that there was nothing worth concern. "I was just about to go hunting anyway, so if you'd like I can go with you," she meowed with a soft smile. Coalpaw resumed padding towards the entrance of the camp, grey-tipped tail swishing behind her. "Come on, I'm hungry!" she called back at Blackpaw before cantering into the marshes, impatience getting the best of her.

Blackpaw nodded and followed after the apprentice. He was low mostly on chervil, cobwebs, and broom so those were the herbs he was looking for. “C-cob-w-webs.” he said thinking the apprentice would like to help him on the hunt for herbs. The quicker they got the herbs the quicker coalpaw could get food.

"That's an easy one for me, at least! If you wanna look for your other stuff I can definitely find those, I know a couple of bushes where I saw a bunch yesterday," she told the other apprentice before scampering off to find the sticky white spiderwebs. Coalpaw had to squish a spider once she actually found them, grabbing a broad leaf and scraping as much of the sticky webs as she could get off of the bush into the leaf before taking the leaf into her mouth and trotting along to the other bush she remembered seeing covered in cobwebs.

The she-cat peeled another solid amount of the cobwebs off of the second bush before scraping it off of her grey paws onto the leaf, wrapping the leaf around the sticky webs before picking it up with her mouth and padded off back towards where Blackpaw had gone. A sharp yelp met her black ears and she jumped, sprinting towards the source without hesitation. Her golden eyes saw Blackpaw on the ground against a tree, visibly stunned, and the menacing black and white stripes of a hissing badger, and that was all that Coalpaw needed before she leapt on top of the creature, growling a much scarier noise than she really should be able to make at her size.

The badger used Full Force Tackle, dealing 10 damage to Blackpaw.

Coalpaw used Grapple, dealing 2 + 5 damage to the badger.

Blackpaw didn’t see the badger when he was collecting broom so when he got tackled it knocked his breath away. He watched as coalpaw came back and instantly started to attack the badger. He couldn’t let her do everything so he wobbled to his paws and lunged claws out towards the badger’s side.

Coalpaw hissed as she clung to the badger and sunk her claws even deeper in its fur, hoping to distract it long enough for Blackpaw to escape. She was surprised to see him attack the badger too-- maybe now it wouldn't bother their territory again if they chased it off entirely. The badger writhed underneath her, trying to shake her off and failing.

Coalpaw continued to Grapple, leaving the badger unable to attack and dealing 2 damage.

The badger rolled a 1, and was unable to use Escape successfully.

Coalpaw was pinning the badger but Blackpaw knew it wouldn’t hold so he quickly got some scratches in before the badger knocked his friend off.

Coalpaw growled and rolled off of the badger, paws aching with the strain of holding onto the writhing predator. "Back off you mangy dungeater!" she hissed, lunging and sinking her teeth into its side. The badger yelped, lashing out with its claws before knocking her off and scampering into the trees. Coalpaw spit the blood and fur from her mouth, eyeing the shallow claw marks on her shoulder. "Are you okay?" she asked Blackpaw, padding up to the apprentice.

Coalpaw used Claws and Teeth, dealing 4 + 5 damage to the badger.

The badger used Talons or Fangs on Coalpaw, dealing 8 damage.

The badger fled!

Blackpaw nodded before noticing coalpaw was injured. He quickly looked around and spotted some cobwebs and goldenrod, that would have to do. He cleaned her wounds before chewing the golden rod into a poultice. He gently added the chewed goldenrod then wrapped in cobwebs.


Blackpaw used heal on coalpaw. Coalpaw health raised by 7 (1 + 6)

Coalpaw huffed at the sting of the herbs, but was relieved as it quickly took away the actual pain of the cut. "Thank you," she mewed gratefully, bumping her non-injured shoulder against Blackpaw's side affectionately. She glanced around for a brief moment before trotting over and picking up her leaf full of cobwebs, untouched by the battle. "Did you end up getting everything you needed?" the apprentice asked. "We shouldn't be bothered by that dumb badger anymore at least."

“Y-Yes.” he mewed going to collect the herbs he dropped before padding back to coalpaw. He motioned towards camp and the two padded back.
